Blog Tour - Memphis Nights by Ninette Swan - Review & Giveaway

Aster Dunn has an axe to grind against the entire world. Just twenty-one, the girl is one of Memphis' top bounty hunters, spurred to action when her parents were brutally murdered by criminals on the run. She lives alone and hopes to die alone, quickly and heroically. The first time police officer Brian Cultry interrupts her catch, she chalks it up to bad luck. The second time, she's not letting him go. She needs all the help she can get because keeping Dick Harbinger off the streets isn't business. It's personal.

When her two-faced friend, Laurette, breaks into her apartment with Dick and sets her on the run, she finds herself knocking on Brian's door—or, more accurately, lying in his bed. Now she has to choose between protecting her friends or saving herself.

Police officer Brian Cultry had always put his job first, until he met Aster Dunn. After a night together, he can't get the woman out of his mind, and agrees to help her bring in her next catch…from the other side of the law. Together they learn whom to trust and whom to burn

Aster Dunn is used to doing things on her own.  As one of the top bounty hunters in Memphis, she knows what needs to get done and does it.  Aster didn't have an easy childhood her mother was murdered when she was a child, causing her father to leave the police force and seek vengeance on his own which ultimately led to his death leaving Aster alone to deal with the world.

Aster has hated cops most of her life.  She doesn't feel they do anything to help, only get in the way.  She especially feels that way when she's out on a job and comes face to face with officer Brian Cultry.  Brian only wants to help Aster, but for Aster he's a distraction that she doesn't need.

When Aster helps out the victim of one of her criminals she's following, Laurette, she does everything she can to get her away from Dick who uses her as a punching bag.  But Laurette doesn't want help and after Brian and Aster spend one night of passion together, Aster is forced to run to his apartment for help after her apartment is destroyed by Laurette and Dick.

Can Aster put aside her feelings toward law enforcement and accept Brian's help?  Can she finally see that Brian wants more from her than just an easy woman to have sex with?

I enjoyed this story, it was short but not too short that there was no character development.  Aster learned a lot about herself by letting Brian and Laurette get close to her.  Brian who's used to having women around only for short amounts of time meets his match in Aster, but can he convince her that he wants more than a fling with her?  I would have liked to learn a little more about Brian and his past, most of the story revolves around Aster.  I would also love to see where Laurette's story goes after the book ends.  For an enjoyable read, I give it 4 stars.

  1. When I think of Memphis I think of hot steamy nights. If you add romance, even better, And if you add action and/or suspense--better yet! This sounds like it would be right "up my alley"! Thanks for the post. jdh2690@gmail.com
