Burn picks up right where Spark ended. With Velaney and Eric on their way to Texas to meet Eric's family. Eric's family quickly welcomes Velaney into their family and treats her like one of their own but Velaney keeps seeing her brother Aiden hanging around in the shadows. He doesn't approach her, doesn't say anything but she thinks she keeps seeing him. They enjoy their time together in Texas before heading back to Boston where reality sets in for Velaney in the form on a visit from her mother.

As we learned in Spark, Velaney doesn't have a relationship with her family. After years of her brother's abuse, her mother ignoring it, and her father standing in the sidelines only supporting their mother and nothing else, her mother is the last person she wants to see. So when her mother reveals a secret about Aiden, it becomes clear why Aiden has been following her. She must decide to help Aiden or walk away. Eric wants Velaney to walk away from her family entirely, but Velaney doesn't think that she can. Will this be what finally tears them apart for good? Or will it be Eric's past that he reveals that will end this growing relationship?

There are plenty of secrets, pasts revealed, and other situations that will put Eric and Velaney's relationship to the test. Will they be able to survive what life has thrown at them? I loved this story. Velaney and Eric did so much growing in this story. While they did have their happy moments together, there were several times when I thought their relationship would be over for good. If you fell in love with Eric, Velaney, and Carissa in Spark, you will love them even more in Burn. I enjoyed this story more than Spark. I especially liked the story of Carissa playing out in the background and I hope to see a book about her in the future. I give it five beautiful stars, it was a great ending to their story.
