Synopsis

Scottish Duke, Liam Stewart, needs a wife and an heir before he can inherit the money he so desperately needs to support his family, his staff, and restore his ducal estates their former glory. Only ever since his ex-fiancée ran off with the gardener, Liam doesn’t believe in marriage, or miracles, for that matter, until that is, Isabella Edwards appears at his Edinburg townhome with the answers to his problems.
Local preacher’s daughter and former missionary, Isabella Edwards had the perfect life all planned out. Marry her perfect fiancé, live near her family in Holland Springs, open a bookstore, and have a couple of kids. Except her fiancé ran off to Las Vegas with his widowed ex-stepmother, the bookstore closed before it could open, and now… now, she’s pregnant after a one-weekend stand with hot Scot, Liam Stewart.
To Isabella’s utter shock, Liam proposes, but a marriage can’t last on desire alone. The problem? Isabella and Liam are total opposites.  In fact, the only time they’re in agreement is in the bedroom. Desperate to keep her reputation, she accepts.  Her only hope is that they can put aside their differences and let love bring them together.

Review

***While this is a part of the Holland Springs series, this can be read as a standalone novel.***

I've always been a huge fan of Marquita's.  Ever since I picked up the first book from the Boys of the South series I have been hooked.  So when I was given the chance to review Be Mine I jumped at the chance thinking I would love this book just as much as I did that series.  While I wasn't the biggest fan of this book, it had nothing to do with the way it was written or the story my issue had to do with more of the fact that I just couldn't relate to the characters and while on the shorter side, it still failed to capture my attention like so many of her other books have in the past.

Liam Stewart never expected to be attracted to a woman like Isabella Edwards.  He's not looking to have such a strong connection with another woman, especially not after his fiance ran off with another man.  Same for Bella.  Her fiance ran off the Vegas with his ex-stepmother, what a story for the town to hear.  Bella has played it safe ever since a mistake at the age of sixteen changed her entire world.  Bella wasn't looking for what happened that weekend, but taking a chance she follows Liam and they spend a passionate weekend together.  Issue is, their chemistry in the bedroom is all they share.  As soon as they exit the bedroom, they are at each other's throats and part ways after only a few days together thinking they'll never see one another again except in passing.  Well, that's where they are wrong.

Liam needs to marry and produce an heir in order to inherit the money he desperately needs to keep Wintersea running and it's employees working.  Bella needs to save face when she finds herself pregnant and without a father for her child.  Her solution?  Go to Liam.  Liam can't believe his luck when Bella shows up on his doorstep and they agree to marry right away.  But what about love?  What about that happily ever after that Bella so desperately wants and the very thing Liam doesn't believe in?  Can Bella and Liam's marriage survive a life together especially after Bella tells him she must complete her obligation as a missionary and leave for two months?

I wanted to love this book I really did.  I expected passion, hot sex, and an alpha male especially since the description described how much passion they have for one another.  I'm still looking for that unfortunately.  Their weekend together was great, but that's where all the passion was.  They had a couple of fights, a few shorter sex scenes, and well that's about it.  I expected hot sex, passion, fire, desire, and all the other great things I have come to love about Marquita's work and unfortunately this one just didn't have it.  I did enjoy seeing a familiar face from another series, although I won't name which one, you'll have to find out for yourself.  I wish I felt different about this one but alas the way I feel, is the way I feel.  I give it 3.5 stars rounded up to four for review purposes.
