Double Review: Holding Out and Climbing Out by Lila Rose

This novel contains materials that is not suitable for individuals under the age of 18. Content includes: Strong language, violence, sexual intercourse and innuendo, abuse and other scenarios with content that readers may find offensive.

Zara Edgingway is a twenty-six-year-old secretary. She has a daughter that apparently knows-it-all and a best friend that could possibly have the mouth of Satan, but she's been with her through hell and back. Then there's the hunk'a'licious biker neighbour finally showing interest in her.
If only she isn't about to face her next obstacle in life, the one she ran from six years ago: her ex husband.

Talon Marcus is the president of the Hawks Motorcycle Club. For two years, he's had his eye on the quiet, reclusive, yet sassy, neighbour Zara. Finally, he has the chance to claim her as his woman. Just when her past catches up with her, she'll need, not only his protection, but the help from his biker brothers.
Now, if only she'd stop fighting him along the way.

Zara is content with her life, she has her six year old daughter, Maya and her best friend Deanna, what more could she ask for?  Little did she realize that when she moved into her home, her neighbor would be the Hawks Motorcycle Club.  With it came not only a bunch of hot bikers but their president, Talon has had his eye on Zara since she showed up on his doorstep in a kitten nighty to complain about their music.

Talon didn't expect to find another woman that he would be willing to open up to, that was until Zara came into his life, he was a goner right from the start.  But just when he takes a chance and kisses her, her world pretty much comes crashing down around her.  Her brother Mattie shows up followed not long after that by his lover.  Zara's location was supposed to be hidden, no one knew where she was but Deanna ever since Deanna rescued her after her ex beat and raped her, leaving her pregnant with Maya.

Zara wants to run, Talon is determined to keep her around and in his life, when she turns to Talon and his club for help, can she finally find the peace and love she's been searching for or will her ex come back into the picture and destroy everything?

Right from the start, this book pulled me right in.  It wasn't just Zara and Talon is was all the characters as a whole, especially Zara's best friend Deanna.  Deanna has a mouth on her and is not afraid to use it.  Zara is more reserved, but as the story goes on she quickly finds her own voice, even forging a relationship with Talon's son Cody.  Zara is liked by all and for once in her life, she has people willing to fight for her, question is will she stay long enough to find out that so many people care for her and her safety?  When Zara finally gives in to Talon, their relationship takes off, but with it comes doubts about Talon's true intentions towards her.  Join Talon and Zara as they journey through the beginning of their relationship and fight for Zara to be safe once more.  While I did enjoy this novel, I felt it could've used a little more spark to it.  There were so many times when these two came close to taking their relationship to the next novel, but it always stopped short.  I was really hoping for more and because of that I give it 4 our of 5 stars.  It was a great novel, just not the 5 stars I was hoping for.

For Mature Audiences 18+

Deanna Drake has a past she longs to forget, but won't ever be able to. She's always been the tough one. No one, but her best friend Zara has ever been able to penetrate her cold, hard, shell.

Until Griz

Griz— a.k.a Grady Daniels, Hawks Motorcycle Club second in command, also has a past that he wishes he could undo...all except one part.

It's her past that brings them together. Only will it be forever?

For those of you who don't know who Deanna and Griz are, I highly recommend going back and reading Holding Out.

Deanna Drake has a past that she wishes she could forget, unfortunately for her that past has come back and is determined to ruin her life.  For a long time, the only person who could connect and get through to Deanna was Zara, that was until Deanna laid eyes on Griz.  Griz is the only person besides Zara who challenges her.  As VP of the Hawks Motorcycle Club, Griz has a lot on his plate and is unwilling to allow anyone to be in harms way after all, he already has too much to deal with as it is.  Griz wants with all of his being to be by Deanna's side, but he has a portion of his past that is pulling him away from her on a constant basis.

When he's finally cut free of his past, Griz is willing to be by Deanna's side and protect her at all costs, but that includes another member of his family to be present now.  Griz will do anything for the girls in his life and to protect them from harm, but can he finally allow Deanna into his life and his heart?

I love Deanna and Griz.  Right from the start of Holding Out, they were at each other's throats but no one can deny the chemistry brewing between these two, that is everyone except for them.  They are determined to fight each other tooth and nail, that is until they fall into bed together.  From there, their relationship turns hot and steamy, but Griz has other responsibilities and those things will test their relationship left and right, not to mention the return of someone from Deanna's past determined to destroy everything that they've worked so hard to build.  I loved this novel so much more than the first one.  The chemistry was there and these two clicked together right from the start of their relationship.  This was an easy 5 star read that I finished in one sitting and I cannot wait for Blue's story!
