I think my heart just stopped and then started again, as I take in the site of Brittan wearing boy short panties and a tight tee. A ghost of a smile creeps across my lips as her eyes land on mine.
Her mouth makes an O shape and she screams, “Holy shit, Jordon!” while trying to tug her very tiny tee down.
I kick my foot up on my knee and stretch my arms out along the bench seat as I relax against in the booth. Her all of a sudden shyness is adorable and making my dick stir to life in my jeans. I let out a low raspy laugh, “I don’t know why you’re all of a sudden all bashful. It’s not like I haven’t been up close and very personal with what’s under those adorable leopard panties of yours.”
Plopping down across from me she furrows her brows as she snatches the latte from in front of me, “Sorry I’m a little more self-conscious when I’m not drunk.”
“Well with a body like that, you should never feel self-conscious because I swear on this blueberry muffin,” I actually got a small smile out of her with that one, “You have the hottest body to ever grace this earth…and believe me I’ve seen my fair share. So you need to take my word for it.”
Breaking off a piece of her chocolate muffin she’s been nibbling on she chucks the chunk of muffin at my head and lets out the cutest little laugh, “You’re such a pig. But thanks, I guess.”
“You’re welcome. Now that you’re caffeinated is it safe to ask you about last night without being kicked in the baby makers and tossed out on my ass?” I ask as I sip my latte, and prepare myself for a Brittan bitch slap.
Brittan doesn’t speak for a few moments; she just stares down at her muffin while scooping whipped cream off of her latte and licking it off her finger.
Fuck. I am trying to be Mr. Concerned but it’s really hard when she is doing shit that’s making mehard.
Now I know why guys and girls aren’t normally ‘just friends.’

I have to say, I almost didn't request to review this book.  I had so many other books to read during this time frame and books that make me sad are ones that I generally pass up.  What caught my interest in this book was the fact that #1 it was stated not to read this around others because you will cry (true by the way, I had to explain to a friend of mine why I was crying) and #2 the fact that there is another man after the first one is lost.

I have to say, I am NOT sorry that I read this book...

At the age of sixteen Brittan McKenna met her soul mate Cane at the fourth of July fireworks show.  As the years went by and Brittan planned for her perfect future with Cane, she never imagined that anything could ever go wrong.  That was until 9/11 happened and Cane dropped out of college in Miami to join the military.  Left alone at the university in Miami with only her best friend Roxie and Cane's friends he left behind she is left to worry about what might happen to Cane while he's deployed.  Everything is going great and they even end up getting engaged.  Life is perfect, until it's not.  Brittan gets the one visit she prayed she would never receive, the one to tell her that her fiance is dead.

Gone is the future they planned, gone is the man she loves, their forever ended before it even truly began.  Brittan is devastated and doesn't want to carry on with her life.  That is until she receives a letter that Cane wrote her in the event that he never made it home.  In the letter he tells her wants her to pursue her dream of playing music.  So she joins Beyond Redemption an alternative rock band full time as the lead singer.  Having done smaller gigs with the band, she wants more and with the encouragement of Cane, she moves forward.  But life is hard for Brittan without Cane.  So, she turns to drugs which lands her in rehab, and when she's finally clean she's ready to return to the spotlight with a new group headlining their new tour, Tempting Tomorrow.

Eight years after the death of Cane, Brittan meets Jordan.  Jordan makes her feel alive in a way that a man hasn't made her feel since Cane.  It scares her, it makes her want to run away, but she can't seem to get away from him.  But just when you think their story will find a happily ever after, someone returns from Jordan's past to try and destroy what only just started.  Can Jordan and Brittan survive everything that is thrown at them and can Brittan learn to love again after the lost of her soul mate?

All I can say about this book is wow.  I can't remember the last time a book made me so emotional, I haven't felt this way since I read The Edge of Never.  I've since read more than 200 books and I haven't felt the way I did when I read this book.  It will make you happy, it will make you sad, and it will make you jump for joy but it's a roller coaster ride that you won't want to miss a second of.  I loved how authentic the author kept events and feelings, you could really feel the way that Brittan did in the hard moments of her life and it will bring tears to your eyes several times in this book.  I highly recommend this book because while it will make you cry it also shows you that even after suffering a great loss, you can still find your happily ever after.  5 amazing stars and I look forward to more of Danielle's work in the future!
