WARNING: If you have not read When I Break, you will need to read it prior to reading When I Surrender. This is NOT a standalone.
This story picks up right where When I Break left off. McKenna is heartbroken, confused, and trying in vain to ignore her growing feelings toward Knox. Knox knows he should walk away and leave McKenna alone, but he can't seem to leave her alone, and more than anything he wants her in his life and so do his brothers. In the time he's known McKenna she's been the ray of light at the end of the tunnel and knows that Knox can change. Recovering sex addict or not, McKenna wants to be with Knox.
There are so many complications standing in the way. Her roommate Brian doesn't like Knox and makes it well known, her sexual status becomes a complication, and his fear that he will one day hurt McKenna. Knox doesn't believe in love, will McKenna be what changes his mind?
Something in her past returns, and changes everything for her, will that be what pulls them apart? Or will it be the secret that Knox has kept hidden from her?
I wasn't too much of a fan of When I Break, I've made that clear. There was just so much build up in that book and nothing really ever went anywhere. I enjoyed this book so much more. There was so much more in this story and I loved the growing connection between McKenna and Knox. I really look forward to the final book in this series and what will happen between these two. Unlike book 1, the second book cliffhanger made me want to read the next one so much more.
I give it 4.5 stars rounded up to 5.
