This review is for Play With Me the first book in the Heating Up the Holiday bundle.  Make sure to check out the other two exciting stories below the review.

PLAY WITH ME by Lisa Renee Jones

Kali Miller has spent three years reporting fluff stories, waiting for the article that will launch her career to new heights. When she suddenly finds herself forced to take a job as an executive secretary at a Vegas casino, Kali meets the subject of what will surely be a shocking exposé: her boss, Damion Ward, the arrogant and undeniably sexy CEO. But after Damion invites her to help him plan a Thanksgiving charity event, Kali begins to see another side of the man. And when she surrenders to the exhilarating tension simmering between them, Kali hopes her story will have a happy ending.

REVIEW

Kali Miller's dream is the launch her career and moving to Vegas is her way of not only doing that but leaving behind her father and ex-boyfriend.  She's suppose to be interviewing for a reporting job, but ends up instead secretary to Damion Ward, CEO of a Vegas casino.

She's heard from Dara at the front desk that he's intimidating, handsome, and oh so sexy, but that still doesn't prepare her for Damion Ward.  Damion is a hard working man who spends all his time working on his business and a pet project of his a charity event for a shelter near and dear to his heart.

Damion is attracted to Kali, but Kali is determined not to just be another conquest to the man and he makes it clear that to him, she is so much more.  There are those in his company that don't want it to succeed, that will try to take it down from within causing Kali to question if she's an employee or a suspect in the crimes going on within the company.  If that's not enough, Damion is determined to keep Kali at arm's length and stay professional.  We all know how that ones going to go down.  But while they are attracted to one another can Kali get over he past hurt caused by her father, stepmother, and ex-boyfriend?  Can Damion allow Kali to see the man he really is?

I enjoyed this story.  It was short and sweet but the characters were still so well developed.  Kali was such a strong determined woman who will do anything to uncover the truth behind the crimes within the company walls.  Damion is everything you would want in a CEO; confidant, sexy, caring, and charismatic.  What was my only issue with this story?  That I wish it was longer.  It was a little different from Jones' other work, but it's still just as great as her other work.  This story had the potential to be a full length novel based off of what the reader learns about the characters but overall it was a perfect short holiday read.  I give it 4 stars.

  1. When I first found out about this anthology, I thought I only wanted to read Mary Ann's story. But then I was convinced to give Serena a try. And now I want to read Lisa's story as well. While I was initially annoyed about the bundling of stories, now it turns out to be a good thing that it's a bundled collection.
