Waitress Tess Branson has earned a bad reputation, and the nickname "Fast Tessie," as result of her poor judgment where men are concerned. Tess learned from a young age that men – of all ages – were interested in one thing from her and one thing only. But all Tess ever really wanted was to connect with someone special – to mean something to someone. Lucas Flynn, the short order cook at the restaurant where Tess works, has just been released on parole. He’s trying to get his life back on track, but can’t help noticing the pretty waitress who treats him kindly, despite his past. At Lucas’s urging, Tess makes a wish on a star, but they’ll have to rely on the magic of Christmas to help it come true.
The Christmas Wish is a novella and can be read as a standalone.

Review

Lucas Flynn knows he should stay away from Tess Branson, but one night after she dumps a container on ice water on three patrons he finally goes to her to talk.  He asks her out on a date and like so many other times, she's looking for the his hidden agenda.  Little does she realize that Lucas doesn't have one, he just wants to get to know her better as a person.  Lucas tells Tess that she should make a wish for Christmas and that if she does, it will come true.

Tess was quick to judge Lucas as the ex-con who's unsafe to be around.  Imagine her surprise when she finds out the real reason he was in prison and what he is actually like as a person.  On their date, Lucas does nothing but treat her like a lady and encourage her to leave if she's unhappy in Gardiner.  Tess struggles to believe that Lucas truly cares for her since guys usually get what they want out of her and then kick her to the curb so they can move onto something better than she is.  What she doesn't understand, is that Lucas really does care about her, watching the way she is with the customers at the diner, the way she treats everyone with respect even though the same kindness is not shown towards her in return by so many people in the town.

Can he convince her that she's worthy of love and a man who will treat her with respect?  Will her wish come true or will Lucas turn out to be just like every other man in Gardiner?

This was a cute short read.  If you read and loved By Proxy by Regnery, you will fall in love with this story.  It was short but it was still sweet and just long enough that you could really get to know the two characters in this story.  I would have loved for their to be an epilogue though that would've made this story a 5 instead of a 4.  Lucas was so caring towards Tess and it was refreshing to see especially after everything that had happened to him and the family he lost.  I look forward to reading more stories by Regnery and hope that there will be other books in this series.  Secretly hoping for the Lindstrom brothers to get books especially Nils who was introduced in By Proxy.  Overall I enjoyed this short read and I give it four stars.

About the Author

KATY REGNERY, winner of several regional RWA contests, has always loved telling a good story and credits her mother with making funny, heartwarming tales come alive throughout her childhood. A lifelong devotee of all romance writing from Edwardian to present-day, it was just a matter of time before Katy tried her hand at writing a love story of her own.

As it turned out, one love story turned into a series of five Heart of Montana romances, following the love lives of the Yellowstone-based Lindstrom siblings. In addition to small-town contemporary romance, Katy is presently writing a paranormal romance that takes place in northern New England and the forests north of Quebec.

Speaking of forests, Katy lives in the relative-wilds of northern Fairfield County, Connecticut where her writing room looks out at the woods and her husband, two young children and two dogs create just enough cheerful chaos to remind her that the very best love stories of all are the messy and unexpected ones.
