Blog Tour: Out of Line by Jen McLaughlin - Review & Giveaway

Desperate to break free…

I've spent my entire life under my father’s thumb, but now I'm finally free to make my own choices. When my roommate dragged me to my first college party, I met Finn Coram and my life turned inside out. He knows how to break the rules and is everything I never knew I wanted. A Marine by day and surfer by night, he pushes me away even as our attraction brings us closer. Now I am finally free to do whatever I want. I know what I want. I choose Finn.

Trying to play by the rules...

I always follow orders. My job, my life, depends on it. I thought this job would be easy, all the rules were made crystal clear, but when I met Carrie Wallington, everything got muddy. She's a rule I know I shouldn't break, but damn if I don’t inch closer to the breaking point each time I see her. I’m ready to step out of line. And even worse? I’m living a lie. They say the truth will set you free, but in my case…

The truth will cost me everything.
Carrie has finally broken free from her father's hold over her.  Sure she loves her family, but being the daughter of a state senator comes with security that follows you everywhere and a life without any fun involved.  She even had three bodyguards following her when she went abroad for a year before deciding to attend college.  Finally having enough, she did the only thing she could think of, go to school on the other side of the country and it's here that she finds herself in California.

Carrie has only been in California for two days when her roommate decides it's time to drag her to a party.  Being a quiet reserved girl used to following all the rules set for her, Carrie has never been much of a party person so she finds herself outside in the dark on the beach alone.  It's here that she finds herself face to face with a surfer named Finn Coram.  By all appearances, Finn appears to be a college student who is soon to graduate and that's how he presents himself.  But Finn is not a college student, he's a marine by day, surfer dude by night complete with tattoos and a motorcycle (YUM).  But being a marine is not Finn's only job.  His other job?  Protect Carrie.  You see, Carrie thinks that her father has finally let her go on her own but what she doesn't realize is that Finn is a spy who has been sent to make sure Carrie does everything she's suppose to do without getting hurt.

His job was only to protect her, all she wants is to break the rules for once in her life and what better way than with a man like Finn?  The more Finn gets to know Carrie, the more he learns how wrong he was about her.  Feelings develop, friendship forms and becomes longing, and lines are crossed and blurred as Finn finds himself more drawn to Carrie every single day.

But what happens with the friendship you've started was all a lie?  When Finn crosses the line set by his boss will he be able to tell the truth or will his lie consume him?  Is stepping out of line worth the risk involved?

This story started out like some of the films I've seen.  Girl meets boy, girl falls for boy, boy turns out to be lying to girl.  But this book became so much more than that.  Carrie is a sweet and innocent girl, but she's a lot smarter than she appears and has a giving heart that never seems to end.  Couple that with Finn and his charming protective manner and you've got one heck of a story.  Oh and did I mention he's like super duper hott and sexy???  Finn makes some other book boyfriends fade into the background and he can come and protect me any day because if that's how he protects his assignment, imagine how he would protect a woman that's his.  This was a great story that captivated me right from the start and had me hanging into every word right up until the end, and I cannot wait to see where their story leads next.  What fun is it to follow all the rules and not have any fun in life?  Sometimes you have to step out of line and take that risk or you'll never have lived your life, 5 stars.
