My review: King Hall by Scarlett Dawn

A fresh, meaty, sink-your-teeth-in-and-hold-on-tight new adult fantasy series kicks off with King Hall…

King Hall — where the Mysticals go to learn their craft, get their degrees, and transition into adulthood. And where four new Rulers will rise and meet their destinies.

Lily Ruckler is adept at one thing:  survival.  Born a Mystical hybrid, her mere existence is forbidden, but her nightmare is only about to start. Fluke, happenstance, and a deep personal loss finds Lily deeply entrenched with those who would destroy her simply for existing — The Mystical Kings.  Being named future Queen of the Shifters shoves Lily into the spotlight, making her one of the most visible Mysticals in the world. But with risk comes a certain solace — her burgeoning friendships with the other three Prodigies: a wicked Vampire, a wild-child Mage, and a playboy Elemental. Backed by their faith and trust, Lily begins to relax into her new life.

Then chaos erupts as the fragile peace between Commoners and Mysticals is broken, and suddenly Lily realises the greatest threat was never from within, and her fear takes on a new name: the Revolution.

***Warning this review containers spoilers. Does it give everything away?  Nope but some is revealed***

When I first start reading this book, I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about it.  I was a little confused at the beginning when Lily was introduced and she was already mated with another shifter.  I was like seriously???  The romance begins already???  It was almost like their romance was the fairy tale that belonged at the END of the book.  Now, now, before you start throwing tomatoes at me,  I LOVED this book!

Welcome to King Hall, where Mysticals learn how to use their powers and some become the greatest rulers of their time.  Dominic has everything he could have ever asked for.  He has a great life, he's about to be named the next Shifter King, and he is mated to a wonderful shifter named Lily Ruckler.  There first time together wasn't that great considering he was drunk, but they have since mated and are living on cloud nine.  That very same day, the four future kings and queens are announced to show the world who they will be.  Ezra the next king Vampire, Pearl the next queen Mage, Jack the next king Element, and Dominic the next king Shifter.  Life was perfect but when they attend a party that evening at a club, Emily's life comes to a screeching halt when she goes home early from the party to discover that her connection to her mate is gone.  What happened?  He was killed by Commoners who attacked the club killing several others with him.

Emily is devastated, she lost the only one true love of her life.  She becomes a shell of herself, hiding up in a tree, seemingly having run away from her life.  She doesn't emerge again until Antonio, the man who raised her with her late mother arrives to drag her down and back the the Kings.  Little does Emily know that Antonio is an Elder, a former King himself.  Emily knows she must step up and is now the next Queen Shifter.  But Emily has a secret.  One that very few know, she's a hybrid.  She's half shifter half vampire.  Her father?  The current King Vampire.  Emily knows no one can find out her secret, if they did they would surely order her to her death.  She does her best to hide the vampire side of herself, but it's difficult when you are shorter than a normal Mystical, not as strong, stick out like a sore thumb with red hair and blue eyes like a vampire, and have been trained your entire life to be ready to run and not to step up and become a ruler.  But one of Emily's biggest fear is that she will never find someone to love her for herself and not through the magic that is formed by being mated to another.

Emily doesn't expect to form the bond that she does with the other prodigies but before long they are all best friends and soon learn her secret.  She goes closer and closer to Ezra, feeding off one another.  To Ezra, there is no other taste quite like Emily's and he's addicted.  But while it's clear there is an attraction there, they are the best of friends.  When Lily is attacked by a Commoner the prodigies and the kings band together to put a stop to the man in power who has tried to hurt her.  But sometimes even with secrets, the ones you should fear are not those among you, but those that are outsiders.  Will Emily reveal her secret?  What will happen when the Commoners and the Mysticals go to war once again?

This book was all around amazing.  Not only was Emily an amazing character in this story all the prodigies and kings were well written and developed.  They story had a great flow, and left me wanting so much more.  Heck I NEED more Ezra, he was the perfect vampire male in this story.  He makes an amazing book boyfriend who easily rivals most others that I have read.  If you have not read King Hall, you need to because it's one series you will not want to miss.  I cannot wait for King Cave to see what happens with Emily and *sighs dramatically* Ezra.  P.S. I don't sigh over book characters, so believe me ladies Ezra is dreamy.  Scarlett has a real hit on her hands with King Hall, 5 stars!  Oh I should also mention, I'm not a big fan of paranormal and magic so the fact that this is in my top 10 should say something.
