After being saved by a firefighter, Velaney Wills meets Eric Reilley, who recently moved from Texas to Boston to work on the Boston Fire Department. Ironically, Eric lives below Velaney and with his devilish charm, and sweet accent, Velaney is finding him hard to resist.
Velaney grew up in what should've been the perfect childhood. Her father owns his own dental practice, and her mother a Pastor. She wasn't allowed to swear and never got into any trouble, however, her troubled and complicated past makes her build walls that she doesn't let down easily.
Eric is fascinated with the fact that Velaney can't swear. She uses filler words to express herself that he often finds hilarious. Velaney runs as her outlet - releasing the rage and anger she has built up inside her from a deep secret she's never told anyone except her lifelong best friend, and roommate, Carissa.
Eric and Velaney become running partners - only securing their obvious sexual tension between them. No matter how much Velaney pushes Eric away, he will always be there to save her.

Velaney Wills appears to be your normal everyday girl that comes from the perfect all american family. But deep beneath that surface is what remains of a frightened eight year old girl. You see that was how old she was when her older brother Aiden starts abusing her. She tried to tell her parents but they didn't believe her, unable to believe that their perfect son was capable of so many bad things. I only person that believed her is Carissa and the events of her childhood have left her with the inability to swear. It's also left her unable to let any man anywhere near her. That is until she meets firefighter Eric who saves her from a fire in the building they both live in.
The attraction between them is instant, and Laney knows that she can't let herself get near him especially since he seems to be a ladies man and rubs her the wrong way. She doesn't want to be his next conquest, she is looking for so much more. She appears now to be strong and grown up with a job in sports medicine and living with Carissa but deep down she's still scared of the power that Aiden holds over her. She tries all that she can to back away from Eric and meets Alex at her weekend bartender job and starts to like him as well. He's sweet and kind to her, safe. But what her mind wants isn't what her body wants. Her body wants more of Eric.
She finally gives into her attraction and begins to date Eric. But just when she thinks her fairy tale ending has come true, her past comes back to haunt her ripping her entire world apart. Can she let go of her past to move on with her future? Can she finally let go ans allow herself to truly be with Eric? Or will the hold that Aiden had over her for so long be too much to overcome?
I loved Eric. He never gave up on Laney, always being there to save and protect her. This was a story that was easy to fall in love with and I loved the emotions and connection that I made with the characters in this story. I am still trying to get over the cliffhanger and the end of this book, and cannot wait to read the next book. 4.5 stars!
