This book is a continuation of book 1, Atonement.  You do not need to read Atonement in order to read Only Love however it does help in understanding Deirdre and Colin's background as well as the other characters introduced in Atonement,

This story starts out with Deirdre's return trip from the doctor when she finds out a secret, one that has her reevaluating her decision to marry Colin.  She's still reeling from the revelation that Liam and Colin killed her father the day before Thanksgiving less than a year ago when they were high on bath salts.  Deirdre thought everything would be okay that she could turn her back and forget what they have done, but it's becoming too much for her and she decides to make her bags and run away to La Jolla California.  With her bags, a new cell phone, and a condo she purchased she leaves for La Jolla.  When she arrives there, she meets her neighbor Drake a sexy chef at a restaurant named Rogue.  She doesn't want to have feelings for Drake but when she touches Drake she can already tell that she's going to like him.

Deirdre decides it's time to move on with life so she purchase a coffee shop called Ground Beans and starts to live life again even deciding to check out Rogue where Colin is the head chef and owner.  While talking on the phone with her sister in the restaurant Deirdre falls down the stairs and has a miscarriage seemingly happy because her secret is that the baby is not Colin's but a direct result of her one night stand with his brother Liam before she started dating Colin.  Her family all comes out to see her and Colin announces he will not be leaving and is staying to try and win her back and convince her to come home.  At first she's annoyed with Colin she agrees to let him buy half her coffee shop to help her run it and while Drake doesn't think it's such a great idea she does it anyways.  Slowly Deirdre begins to develop feelings for Drake while he looks like a bad boy and has lots of money and women chasing him all his feelings are for her and he's been there for her when he needs her.  Deirdre struggles to trust him a lot in this book after what happened with Colin and when she finds out from Drew, who happens to be Drake's first cousin, that he has had ties to the mafia in the past, Deirdre doesn't know if she can trust him.  Make matters worse in that her sister knows Drew and Colin's secret and refuses to turn Liam in and tells her she can't tell anyone.
So join Deirdre has she learns to trust again and who will she end up with?  Colin or Drake?

While I did enjoy this story quite a bit I did have an issue with two things in this story.  The first was that there were references to contacting Drake's ex girlfriend who he was in love with to invite her to come back and see if Drake would cheat on Deirdre with her but nothing ever happened with that and instead his other ex girlfriend was contacted Mikayla.  That confused me because it just never went anywhere she just dropped off from the story after Colin decided to contact her.  The other was in a way I didn't like the ending.  I really wished it had gone the other way but I can see in a way why it didn't.  That fact doesn't really effect my view too much on the story but after he (Not going to say who "he" is) pretty much redeems himself he still doesn't get the girl.  I give it 3 1/2 stars but I am looking forward to reading Liam's story I really liked his character from Atonement and it would be interesting to see things from his POV.
