The Hazards of Skinny Dipping by Alyssa Rose Ivy Release Day Launch

Happy release day to author Alyssa Rose Ivy!!!

Title: The Hazards of Skinny Dipping
Author: Alyssa Rose Ivy
Genre: New Adult

Book Description:

This isn't a deep book about first loves or self-discovery. If you want a book like that, I'd be happy to recommend one, but I don't have that kind of story to tell. Instead my story is about rash decisions and finding out that your dream guy is bad in bed. It's the story of when I finally went skinny dipping, and how my life was never the same again. Oh, and it's also the story of my freshman year of college and realizing Mr. Right might have been there all along.

My Review:

***ARC provided in exchange for an honest review***

If you are looking for a book filled with college drama and sorority feuds this isn’t the book for you.  There are no virgins and no first loves.  This is the story of Juliet and her freshman year in college.  The first thing that drew me in was the cover when I did the cover reveal, I knew then that I wanted to read this book so when given the chance I signed up to review it!

We first meet Juliet when she’s given a bucket list of tasks to do before going off to college by her cousin Amy.  There were only five tasks on the list and Amy assumes that Juliet can’t do them.  They range from getting drunk to kissing some random guy but the one she struggles with is the fifth and final task: skinny dipping.  Juliet finally works up the courage on the last night of her family trip after her family departs so with a little courage and a bikini she heads out back to the swimming pool in the dark, removes all her clothes, and jumps into the pool.  Oh but of course there’s, more not only did she forget her towel there is a car pulling up into the neighbor’s driveway and out walks her longtime crush, Dylan Bradley.  Juliet has dreamed about Dylan for a long time she even remembers doing small things to catch his attention but he never looked twice at her.  Before she knows what’s happening, Dylan has removed all his clothes and joined her in the pool.  It doesn’t take long to realize that Dylan also has feelings for Juliet and the foreplay is amazing you would think the sex is going to be great right?  He takes her back to his place and I mean quite literally pushes no more than five times and he’s done.  Talk about a guy who gets right down to business right?  I still wonder to myself how a man that is so great with foreplay can be so terrible in bed... The world may never know...  Dylan asks Juliet to stay the night, but as soon as he’s asleep she makes a run for it never looking back.

Juliet begins to settle into college finding out that she will be a Delta Mu pledge and that her friend Cara is going to be in the same fraternity.  The day starts off with a trip to play laser tag which she does great at outlasting all the other girls and taking all the guys down saving the largest one for last, he’s 6’4” and 100% solid male muscle.  He’s surprised that one of the girls took him down more so that the girl is not very ‘lady like’ the way all Delta Mu’s are.  He seems impressed by her but he walks away.

Juliet can only run so far, the college she’s attending, Dylan just so happens to be a senior there and also president of a fraternity on campus, Phi Omega.  Being a Delta Mu pledge, Juliet knows it’s only a matter of time before she runs right into Dylan and what do you know the first party on campus she attends she runs right into him.  He’s a little upset that she took off without a work but he’s eager to get her upstairs and have another go at her.  Thinking that perhaps the first time was just a fluke and the second time around will be better she follows him upstairs to his room but what do you know... the foreplay is great but the sex is just as bad as the first time.   Dylan jumps right into it saying that Juliet is his girlfriend and that they are together.  Dylan starts showing up everywhere; texting her, calling her, always wanting to be with her.

Juliet tries to just go about the rest of her college experience trying not to let her relationship with Dylan affect the rest of her college experience especially since the sex is still as bad as the first two times.  Amanda the sorority mom, decides that as a pledge task the girls will help the Kappas clean their fraternity house, among the girls selected is Juliet.  All the girls get assigned tasks to do while the guys give them pointers and make lewd comments at them while they bend over in their tiny skirts.  Juliet however gets singled out by none other than laser tag guy, when he stands up and announces he needs an assistant for the day.  His name turns out to be Reed and Juliet is quick to point out the Reed that her name is Juliet because he keeps calling her Annie which turns out to be Annie Oakley and not another girl that happens to remind Reed of Juliet.  The day turns out not to be too bad for Juliet she gets to help him with his laundry instead of cleaning toilets and even ends up with a job at a local pizza joint that Reed manages.  No one ever comes in before 9 pm so she thinks the job is a great idea to help with her homework and she gets paid to work at the same time.  It becomes apparent pretty quickly that Dylan and Reed don’t get along and when they come face to face Dylan is not happy to see Reed with Juliet.  As time goes on Reed and Juliet start to get closer, but they never cross that friend line and while they get closer Dylan starts to become more controlling and possessive and Reed warns Juliet that his sister had a man like that and it ended badly for her.

I started to wonder if anything would come out of the relationship with Reed because here were other men in this story Ryan is a playboy who is constantly telling Juliet that she is more than welcome to stare at him and then there’s Kyle, Dylan’s younger brother who comes out and admits that he also has a crush on Juliet.  I just sat there shaking my head because out of nowhere it was like guys were coming at her left and right.  The entire time I crossed my fingers it would be Reed.  Finally Juliet has enough of Dylan after he gives her a hickey so other men will stay away from her and make matters worse Dylan sleeps with Amanda and then wants to try and get back together with Juliet.  Juliet does not waver in her resolve to end her relationship with Dylan and he finally appears to give up.  While all this happens Juliet and Reed continue to get closer as friends and everyone around them wonders when they are going to make it official.  They spend all their free time together and work together and I knew it was only a matter of time before they became official.  They finally did and when they did I was so excited.  But with everything great there always has to be something that happens that sends your world crumbling around you.   So when Juliet discovers Reed has been lying to her and that their relationship has been based off of a lie orchestrated by someone else can their love survive?

I loved this book is was lighthearted and I enjoyed it a lot.  It’s nice sometimes to read a book that isn’t full of so much drama.  I recommend this book for a weekend curled up in bed it’s one of those books you can lose yourself in while lying in bed.  When I finished I had a grin on my face because the hazards of skinny dipping are great but they have a way of making life better when you figure out the direction your life is headed down.  I look forward to reading more by Alyssa in the future.
